Creating a sense of time

This is a process that I often use with HDR images. As you can see from the top image, although the 7 exposures brings in all of the exposure range, the image is a bit flat. Also, the green cast is the result of very bright summer sun throwing the light reflection from the trees into the room. That is the first image. Using nik Color Efex Pro Bleach Bypass filter, desaturated the room a bit and added dramatic contrast. Still not quite what I had in mind, but getting there. The final image is the result of creating a full black and white layer in Silver Efex Pro, blending the 2nd (color) version and a B&W version together, adjusting the opacity to get more of an old faded look. Don't forget to click on the image to get a larger view.

  2. Tony, thanks for the inspiration!
I really like the subtle hint of color
    coming through the windows.
What blend mode did you use on
the top SEP layer when combining
    the two?

  3. Thx Marilyn.
Mike, no blend mode, just adjusted the opacity between the color version and the B&W version.

  4. Nice effect Tony. I will have to try this when I get back to doing more HDR. I use Sliver Efex and love it.

  5. Thanks again Tony, I've been using this technique on
portraits and getting great feedback! People love the
contrast and hint of color in the shots.

  6. Is there anywhere to get a tutorial on this technique?

  7. no tutorial. After finalizing your color image, converting it to B&W in Silver Efex Pro creates another layer. Just adjust the opacity to taste!
